Louisiana is one of only two states that will honor its veterans with an appreciation medal.
The Louisiana Department of Veterans
Affairs has authorized for issue the Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal, which
honors all Louisiana Veterans. Governor Jindal signed legislation in 2008 to
create the medal. The Veterans Honor Medal Program recognizes and honors all of
Louisiana's Veterans. There are eligibility requirements that need to be met in
order to qualify for a medal.
*Veterans served in armed forces during wartime or peacetime
*Veterans received an honorable discharge or died prior to separation.
*Veteran is current Louisiana resident, was a resident upon entering military
services or was a resident at time of death.
To check eligibility visit the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs website (www.vetaffairs.com) and click news or contact VFW Post 3619 in DeRidder at 463-3977 for more information and an application.
